OUR STORY
I have spent my entire life in the forest and worked in forestry for decades. Finnish forests are home to an incredible variety of beautiful timber.
Modern forestry revolves around spruce and pine. They are both excellent tree species and have their rightful place. But the forest has much more to offer.
My passion and life's work is all the other timber that isn't spruce or pine. I plant Karelian birch, oak, hazel, horse chestnut and larch in my forests, and I'm constantly experimenting with different tree species.
After harvesting, I give the forest time before replanting. I watch to see what begins to grow naturally. Rowan, goat willow and alder, which often take over newly harvested areas, are a source of satisfaction for me. They are allowed to grow freely instead of being cleared away to make room for commercial timber.
Vuosien aikana metsissäni on saanut kasvaa valtavasti muuta puuta. Hakkuukypsät koivut, raidat, pihlajat, lepät, haavat ja katajat on kaadettu talteen.
Puut on sahattu lankuiksi ja laudoiksi. Suurin osa jätettiin tarkoituksella vahvaksi tuppeen sahatuksi tavaraksi. Seuraava tekijä saa itse päättää, mitä siitä syntyy.
Over the years, my forests have produced an abundance of remarkable specialty timber. Mature birch, goat willow, rowan, alder, aspen and juniper have all been carefully harvested.
The trees were sawn into boards and planks. Most were intentionally left as thick live edge boards, allowing the next maker to decide what they will become.
The timber was sawn years ago.
It has spent years drying naturally in timber stacks under cover.
Many things in today's world are done in a hurry, but rushing rarely improves timber.
When wood is allowed to dry and settle naturally, it becomes a completely different material from freshly sawn or kiln-dried timber.
Our warehouse now holds so much specialty timber that it is time to put it into the hands of makers.
Timber is not meant to remain stacked forever. It should become tables, staircases, musical instruments, saunas, knife handles, furniture, flooring and everything else that skilled hands can create.
Wood should tell the story of its growth, its years and its life. That is what makes it interesting.
If you are looking for identical, standard-sized timber, a conventional timber merchant may be a better choice.
But if you are looking for something different – a wide board, exceptional grain, beautifully seasoned timber or wood with a story – get in touch.
Let's see what we can find together.
