Elm

Ulmus glabra

Elm is a hard, tough and relatively heavy hardwood native to Finland. Its heartwood ranges from warm brown to reddish-brown, while the sapwood is noticeably lighter. Elm's distinctive, often wavy grain patterns and beautiful colour variations give the wood a striking and individual appearance.

Elm is strong and particularly resistant to impact and splitting. Its grain is often interlocked, which contributes to its toughness but can make it more challenging to work with. Elm is especially well suited for furniture making and decorative woodworking, where its attractive grain patterns can be fully appreciated.

Common uses:
• furniture
• tabletops and interior design
• veneers and decorative details
• woodturning
• joinery and crafts
