Juniper

Juniperus communis

Juniper is a dense-grained, hard and relatively heavy softwood native to Finland. Its heartwood is reddish-brown, while the sapwood is pale yellow. Juniper's striking colour variations, beautiful grain patterns and often twisted growth give the wood a distinctive and decorative appearance.

Juniper has a characteristic, pleasant aroma due to the essential oils naturally present in the wood. Its heartwood has good natural resistance to decay. Juniper is particularly suitable for small wooden objects, decorative details and crafts. Due to its small trunk size and frequent knots, it is rarely available in large pieces of sawn timber.

Common uses:
• small wooden items and utensils
• decorative objects and woodcarving
• furniture details
• woodturning
• joinery and crafts
